OPEN GYM

Open Gym is a time for students and professionals to use the gym to train and practice their skills. Open gym is ONLY for practicing skills that you have learned previously, and is not a time for learning new skills. Students must be at a level that they can safely train by themselves, outside of a group guided setting. This is NOT A CLASS.

ADULT BEGINNER/ BASIC CLASSES

0- 24 months of experience with aerials

1 .5 HOUR CLASS

BEGINNER: No experience necessary! This class is for those at the beginning of their aerial journey, and for those who want to brush up on the basics or are coming back after an injury. Students will train foundational skills on silks, trapeze, aerial hoop (lyra), rope, or sling depending on the class you choose. Expect a good warm-up, lots of repetition of the basics, and a comprehensive cool down.

BASICS: Students will continue to train foundational skills on silks, trapeze, aerial hoop (lyra), rope, or sling depending on the class you choose. Ideally students have taken 1 term of the chosen apparatus or taken a private lesson or workshop to learn basic elements, grips, and exercises.

BASIC PLUS: This is not a beginner class and students should have some experience with their apparatus. Students will continue to train foundational skills on silks, trapeze, aerial hoop (lyra), rope, or sling depending on the class you choose. This is a great class for those who have taken a beginner course, but are not “new” to circus. Also great for those looking to get back into circus after a break!

Dis-Co-circus

(DISability-COmmunity Circus) - ALL Levels

A general circus class created for students who identify as part of the Deaf, Blind, Mad, Neutrodivergent, Diasabled + communities.

Students will work with coaches on a variety of skills depending on what they are interested in. Juggling, Hula Hoop, Diabolo, Acrobatics, Partner Acrobatics, Aerial Silks, Aerial Hoop, and more.

All classes at Halifax Circus welcome anyone who identifies as being part of these communities and this is not the ONLY class available for you. This is just a class specifically available for typically excluded communities.

Aerial Circus - Beginner Aerial Hoop

Thursday 8:00PM- 9:00pm w/ Cat murray

Explore the foundations of aerial hoop students of varying beginner/beginner+ backgrounds. The focus will be on fundamental technique, the building of strength and body awareness through repetition, and endurance in the air with short sequences of the movements presented in class. Come learn in a fun, supportive, friendly environment.

Aerial Circus - Rope/ Silks (Open level)

saturday 2:30PM- 4:00pm w/ Guinevere Last

Students will work on Rope skills on the aerial rope and aerial silks. Exercises will all be “single strand” as opposed to “double strand”. This class is “open level” which means that students can be any level of experience as long as they have some kind of experience.

Aerial Hoop Intermediate

MONDAY 7:00PM - 8:30PM - w/ Aiyana

Intermediate/ Advanced Aerial Hoop. Focus is more centered on conditioning for advanced exercises as well as developing sequences of tricks.

Aerial Circus -open level Trapeze

Wednesday 5:00PM - 6:30PM - w/ Aiyana

Explore the foundations of trapeze and beyond! Designed to accommodate both students with no background at all and those with many classes already under their belt! By the end of the session, beginner students will begin learning short sequences of the movements worked on in class and advanced students will be working in more complex combos and movements throughout! We will have time each class for a movement exercise as well to help everyone with their comfort level on Trapeze!

Aerial Silks - intermediate/advanced

1.5 HOUR CLASS
Interested in learning more about the nitty gritty of how vertical apparatuses work? Develop core skills, build strength, improve form, and begin to improvise, all while understanding what is keeping you safe in the air using silks or rope. Each class begins with a comprehensive full body warm up with a focus on the shoulders and posterior chain, and concludes with a full cool down focused on flexibility and self-care. Open to all students who can invert with confidence in the air (does not have to be with straight legs). AERIAL STRaps

Saturday - intermediate Straps - 4pm-5:30pm - GUIN

Saturday -Straps Basics - 5:30-7:00pm - GUIN

1.5 HOUR CLASS
Learn how this fun and challenging apparatus works from the ground up. This class will focus on progressive strength building, proper shoulder prehab and engagement for injury prevention, spinning control, and learning straps techniques in a way that works for your specific body. This class is open to all students who have completed at least one session of aerials on any apparatus who can comfortably hold their weight in a double arm hang without touching the ground. This class is not recommended for students currently experiencing any shoulder or wrist issues.

YOUTH AERIAL CLASSES

Intermediate Teen Aerial (12-17 yrs)

thursday - 6:3opm - 8:00pm - Daniel & CAIT

Students must have completed a minimum of 2 terms of aerial circus classes. Foundational skills on apparatuses including: trapeze, cerceau, silks, hammock, and rope will be explored with emphasis on developing strength, body awareness, and flexibility on the ground and in the air.

beginner Teen Aerial (12-17 yrs)

THURSDAY 5-6:30PM w/ CAiT

*NEW!* No experience required! This class will introduce students to aerial circus in a fun, safe, inclusive, and friendly environment. Foundational skills on apparatuses including: trapeze, cerceau, silks, hammock, and rope will be explored with emphasis on developing strength, body awareness, and flexibility on the ground and in the air. First time students are welcome!

YOUTH AERIAL CIRCUS (7-12yrs)

MONDAY 4:00PM - 5:30PM w/ Nika Bub & DANIEL LESLIE

This class is specially designed for youth to discover aerials in a safe, progressive, and fun space. Through a combination of games, yoga, play, and a structured curriculum we work on positive body awareness, strength, and flexibility. Try out the aerial silks, trapeze, cerceau, and hammock. A low teacher to student ratio allows for plenty of one-on-one time, and a safety conscious exploration of the upside-down world above the ground. Plus (and this one is for you, parents) we burn a ton of energy!
