SUMMER CAMP INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

We’re very used to balance work at Halifax Circus, but in these current Covid times, finding the balance between health and safety and the fun and exploration of circus work is a new kind of work entirely.

We’re so happy to be (cautiously, slowly) opening, and are looking forward to several weeks of summer camps, and to resuming regular classes in September.

Over the week of circus camp your children will be working with highly experienced teachers whose concern for safety is paramount. We’ve exhaustively researched the best practices and protocols, and information on our site will be updated as we continue discussions with circus schools and organizations, and with the Health authorities.

Here’s what you need to know:

In the weeks leading up to camp, we’ve:

  • Increased cleaning of the gym and equipment

  • Screened our staff for health concerns

  • Limited group sizes to 10, keeping the same groups of children together

  • Allowed up to 2 groups in the gym, but they are kept separated and use different  entrances

  • Increased hand washing and minimized sharing of equipment

Before leaving youR home:

  • Ensure you have properly washed hands and feet and used the washroom.

  • Bring a face-mask, socks, a water bottle

  • Go through the screening questions below for Covid-19.

If it indicates that you should stay home and call 811, please do.

It is important to understand that changes to your regular health can be an indicator of the Covid-19 virus and must be taken seriously.

If you are sick, or do not meet the requirements, we ask that you contact us and do not come to the gym. We may require you to contact your doctor for further instructions.

If you (or a family member in your household) have come in contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19, tested positive yourself you will be asked to stay home as per Public Health requirements and self-quarantine for 14 days or until you have been confirmed healthy by your doctor. If you have travelled outside of the province, you will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days prior to entry into Halifax Circus.

Daily arrival at HC:

  • Please arrive in front of Halifax Circus (1479 Barrington Street), where a staff member will meet you and your child

  • We ask that youth wear masks upon arrival at Halifax Circus, and on their departure.

  • Please bring lunch and snacks, a water bottle, and clothes your child can easily move in

  • Hand Sanitizer will be required upon entering the facility or washing hands in the sink and wiping the sink, paper towel dispenser soap and door handle upon exit.

  • Students will make their way to the gym, maintaining a social distance of 2 m at all times.  All of their belongings must remain on the mat provided.

  • Each student will have their own supplies, and we’ll be outside much of the time (as weather permits)

Departure and Changeover:

  • Students will be given cleaner and a cloth or paper towel and we’ll guide them on how to sanitize their mat once the camp is over.

  • Students should sanitize their hands before exiting the building. Parents should maintain social distancing rules while waiting outdoors.

Screening qustions for Covid:

Please be advised, policies may be changed at the discretion of Halifax Circus to ensure compliance with government and Public Health.

If anything changes, parents and guardians will be notified immediately To help us prevent the spread of COVID-19, we ask you to read this carefully and answer the questions below.  Please act accordingly following the screening questions, which we’ll be asking each day before camp begins:

Are you feeling sick? (Examples include a new cough, headache, weakness, fever, difficulty breathing, etc.)
Yes, No

If yes then: Return home and contact public health. You may be required to self-isolate.

If no then: Have you travelled outside Canada in the past 14 days?
Yes, No

Did you provide care or have close contact with a person with COVID-19 (probable or confirmed) while they were ill and you did not have appropriate PPE?
Yes, NO

If yes to one or more then: Do not enter the building. Return home.

Reduce your risk of infection by:

  • Frequently washing your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer for at least 20 seconds.

  • Coughing or sneezing into your arm or tissue.

  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick to avoid spreading the illness to others.
